When generating Smart Interop Objects from 3D design data, the Generate SIO Utility sometimes creates orphan Smart Interop Objects with missing parent relationships. Before you can successfully share this generated data with SDx or use it for modeling or for creating deliverables, you must establish valid parent/child relationships for these orphan objects.

Before you begin, make sure that the Repair SIO System Parent Assignment custom command is added to the software. The ProgID for this command is AsBuiltClassicClientCommand, Ingr.SP3D.Common.Client.Commands.CreateMissingSIOSystemHierarchyRelationsCommand. See Add custom commands in the Common Help.

  1. Open a design session in Smart 3D.

  2. Click Tools > Custom Commands, and run the Repair SIO System Parent Assignment custom command.

The command fetches the orphan Smart Interop Objects from the model database and displays them in the Repair SIO System Parent Assignment dialog.

  3. Click the check box to select the orphan object to repair. You can select any number of objects of the same type. If an orphan object cannot be reassigned to a new system parent,

The Details column provides additional context for why an orphan object cannot be reassigned to a new system parent.

  4. Click Select System Parent > More.

  5. Use the Select System dialog to select a new system parent, and click OK to return to the Repair SIO System Parent Assignment dialog. Valid system hierarchy parents are Generic, Area, Unit, Conduit, Duct, Electrical, Mechanical, Piping, and Structural systems.

The parent system you selected displays in the Select System Parent list. In the example, /A3 is the selected orphan object and /STEEL is selected as the new system parent.

  6. Click Apply to place the object under the selected system in the hierarchy.

  • The command fetches orphan objects from the database regardless of the workspace filter you have selected.

  • You can use filters to limit the display of objects. In the example, the Object Type column is filtered to display only Wall Parts.
