Smart Interop Publisher projects allow you to organize your PDS source files and corresponding Smart Models. These projects contain the settings that define the translation of the source files for Smart Models. You can use the default project available in Smart Interop Publisher, or create your own. The steps below show how to create a project and define project settings.

  1. From the Projects View in Smart Interop Publisher, click Create or right-click in the grid, and then click Create.

  2. Type the project name. Use the list to see all projects contained in the current SQL Server instance.

    • Project names are not case-sensitive and each project name must be unique.

    • Project names cannot start with a number.

    • Do not insert spaces in the project name.

    • Project names cannot be longer than 21 characters.

  3. Use the default SQL Server Data Pathname and SQL Server Log File Pathname locations (recommended). Or, clear Use the SQL Server default locations for data and log files, and then type or browse to data and log file locations.

  4. For Shared Content Location, type or browse to a folder to store copies of Smart Interop Publisher support files.

The software creates subfolders under your shared content location to organize all of your work for the selected project.

Unless you specify a location, Smart Interop Publisher uses the shared content location and its subfolders for default location settings.

  5. Click Create to display the new project in the Projects View.

  6. Right-click the project and select the Settings > Translation Settings Command.

  7. Click New in the Select or Create Settings Group list.

  8. Type in the name to use.

  9. Select PDS 3D as the format, and then define the working units in Common.

  10. Review and define PDS 3D options. Select the Schema file (PDSComponent.xml) and Relationship Mapping file (RelationshipMapping.txt) provided by PDS.

  11. Save your translation settings.

  12. Right-click the project and select the Settings > Project Settings Command.

  13. Select the file locations for your Smart Model files in General.

  14. Select the translation settings you created earlier in Translation Settings Group, and in Logging, set up log files to help troubleshoot translation issues. If you enable logging, periodically check the log file. Information sent to the log file is accumulated, and its size could get extremely large after just a few translation operations.

  15. In Target Applications, select Smart 3D, and then click Save.
