Enables you to import and export equipment details between a Smart 3D model and a .xls and .xlsx Microsoft Excel workbook file. You use the Tools > Import/Export Equipment with Excel command to perform the following tasks:

  • Place equipment in the model using an Excel workbook as input. You can also modify the orientation and location of any existing equipment objects or delete the objects from the model.

  • Export equipment details from the model to an Excel workbook. The output workbook uses the EquipmentTemplate.xls workbook as a template.

Equipment template workbook format

An Excel workbook must have specific formatting to import and export equipment details. The software provides the EquipmentTemplate.xls workbook as a template for the required format. The software delivers this workbook to the [Product Folder]\Equipment\Client\Bin\Template folder.

Do not edit or delete the template .xls file. If the file has been altered or is missing, the software displays a message.

Head

Specifies what action the software takes when loading the spreadsheet. If the column is blank, the software ignores the row. The available options include:

  • A - Adds the equipment item.

  • M -Modifies an existing equipment item.

  • D - Deletes the equipment item from the model.

Status

Indicates whether the specified Add/Modify/Delete actions were successful. If the equipment was not added, modified, or deleted, the software displays Error in the column. A comment indicating the cause of the error is added to the More Info column.

System

Specifies the hierarchical path (excluding the root node) of the system under which the equipment is placed in the model. If you do not provide the system path, equipment placement fails during import from Excel.

If you export the details for an equipment item that is placed directly under the root node, the System column in the Excel workbook will be empty.

Name

Displays the name of the equipment item. An empty Name column indicates that the software used the default naming rule when loading equipment data from Excel.

Part Name

Displays the part name of the equipment item. Enter this value as <Part Class Name> / <Part Name>. The software requires this value when importing equipment from Excel.

GUID

Specifies the globally unique identifier for an existing equipment item belongs. The software requires this value when modifying or deleting existing equipment.

After placement in the model, the system automatically updates the equipment object ID (OID) with the placed equipment GUID.

System GUID

Specifies the globally unique identifier for the parent of the equipment. If the system GUID is invalid or does not exist in the model, the software uses the path specified in the System column for placement. If the system path is also empty or contains only the configuration root node, then equipment placement fails.

Coordinates

Specifies the position of the equipment item in the model with respect to the Global Coordinate system. The software requires the X, Y, and Z coordinate values when importing equipment from Excel. If you do not specify the units, the software uses meters.

Angles with respect to Global Axis (X-Angle, Y-Angle, Z-Angle)

Indicates the orientation of the equipment item in the model with respect to the Global Coordinate system. The software requires the X-Angle, Y-Angle, and Z-Angle values when importing equipment from Excel. If you do not specify the units, the software uses radians.
