  1. Click Bound by Volumes Command .

  2. Select the first volume or surface to use to create the new volume, and then select additional volumes or surfaces.

    • You can select the volumes or surfaces graphically or from the Workplace Explorer.

    • The volumes and surfaces that you select can touch or overlap.

  3. Review the selected volumes, and make any necessary changes using the Operand List dialog.

  4. Specify a name for the volume in the Name box.

  5. Select a volume type from the Type list.

The list in the Type box provides only the last few volumes selected from the catalog. Choosing More displays the Select Volume Dialog, which allows you to select any type of volume found in the catalog database.

  6. Select a folder from the Space folder list.

    • The default folder is the last folder used when creating a volume. In a new session file, the default is the model (the root level of the space hierarchy).

    • Assigning volumes to a space folder organizes volumes in the current model. See Create Space Folder.

  7. Click Finish.

    The software creates the volume.

  • The combined volumes retain their individual identities on the Space tab of the Workspace Explorer.

  • You can separate the combined volumes by deleting the bound volume.

  • To use a volume as a sub-volume for creation of another volume, you must have full access permissions on the space object, and its status must be set to Working.

  • You can click Volume Properties on the ribbon to modify the volume properties. See Compartment Properties Dialog, Ship Zone Properties Dialog, or Void Space Properties Dialog.

  • The Type list is populated by the reference data and can be customized on a model-by-model basis. For more information on customizing compartmentation reference data, see Compartmentation Reference Data.
