  1. On the vertical toolbar, click Create Imported Volume Command .

  2. Select the .SAT or the .IGS file to import.

  3. Click Open.

    • If the .SAT or the .IGS file does not generate a closed volume, the software displays a message instructing you to choose a different file.

    • After you choose a valid file, a volume appears in dynamics in the graphic view. The volume is attached to the mouse pointer at the centroid of the volume.

  4. Specify a name for the volume in the Name box.

  5. Select a volume type from the Type list.

The list in the Type box provides only the last few volumes selected from the catalog. Choosing More displays the Select Volume Dialog, which allows you to select any type of volume found in the catalog database.

  6. Select a folder from the Space folder list.

    • The default folder is the last folder used when creating a volume. In a new session file, the default is the model (the root level of the space hierarchy).

    • Assigning volumes to a space folder organizes volumes in the current model. See Create Space Folder.

  7. Select Use Imported Coordinates to place the volume at original position of the imported geometry. Use Imported Coordinates is not available when you select multiple files to import.

  8. If the Use Imported Coordinates option is clear in the graphic view, select a point to place the volume.

    • You can use SmartSketch Options such as intersection and point on surface to assist in positioning the origin of the volume.

    • You can also define the volume origin by using PinPoint Command to select coordinates for the point. See Place objects using rectangular coordinates.

      OR

If you have selected Use Imported Coordinates, change the active coordinate system using PinPoint, if necessary.

  9. If necessary, click Select Volumes for Addition or Select Volumes for Subtraction to add to or subtract from the resultant volume.

If you select multiple files, the Select Volumes for Addition or Select Volumes for Subtraction commands are not available.

  10. Click Finish to place the volumes.

  11. Continue placing the same volume in additional locations as required.
