A chamfer is placed by smart occurrence rules on assembly connections in the model. A chamfer may be placed on a detailed plate part, profile part flange, or profile part web.

The symbol file associated to chamfer generates a contour that the software uses to cut the plate along its edge associated with the assembly connection.

The inputs to the symbol file are the neat edge of the plate, the flange end or web end, the faces of the plate, flange, or web, and the faces of the opposite connected part that drives the depth of the chamfer.

The output of the symbol file is a closed contour that is extruded along the edge to remove material.

Creating a chamfer symbol requires an understanding of the faces of a detailed part. As shown below, the base face is on the molded side of the part at the time of part creation, while the offset face is on the thickness side.

Chamfer symbols are created for both base and offset face single-sided chamfers. The most common chamfers are single sided offset face because the base faces are usually on the same plane.

The chamfer symbol may also remove material on both sides.
