Slot geometry is referenced from profile geometry. As a result, the edge name inputs representing the profile must exactly match the edge names in the corresponding profile symbol.

To assure this match, copy the profile geometry from the profile symbol file into the slot symbol file.

  1. With the slot symbol file already open, start a second session of 2D Symbols by clicking Start > All Programs > Intergraph Smart 3D > 2D Symbols.

  2. Click File > Open to open the profile cross section symbol file.

  3. Select the group containing the profile cross-section contour, and click Edit > Copy.

  4. Go back to the slot symbol file, and click Edit > Paste. The profile group appears in the slot symbol file graphics window.

  5. Delete all existing constraints on the copied geometry.

Deleting existing constraints helps prevent over-constraint conditions during slot geometry creation, constraining, and dimensioning.

  6. Lock all profile geometry using Lock on the Relationship toolbar.

  7. With the profile group selected, click Change Layer on the Layer toolbar.

  8. On the dialog box, select the Inputs layer, and click OK.

If the copied profile group was on a layer not contained in the slot symbol file, that layer will also be copied to the slot file. To delete it, click Tools > Delete Layer.
