  1. Open the symbol.

  2. Click Tools > Layers to display the Layer toolbar.

The cross section template contains several different layers. Verify that you create the correct graphics on the appropriate layer. For example, you should create the detailed physical representation graphics on the Detailed Physical layer.

  3. Click Layer Status on the Layer toolbar.

  4. Double-click Detailed Physical in the list to make it the active layer. Verify that the words Detailed Physical turn red, which indicates that it is the active layer.

  5. Clear the Active layer only option, so you can see all symbol layers, and then click Apply.

  6. Use the Line command to draw the same basic outline of your symbol that you did on the simple physical layer. Again, you can use any of the graphic placement commands: arc, circle, rectangle, and so forth, to create your symbol.

  7. Use the commands on the Relationship toolbar to constrain the detailed physical representation exactly the same way you constrained the simple physical representation. Again, be careful not to over-constrain your symbol. Add relationships that are only absolutely necessary.

  8. Click File > Save.

In the Structure task, the software does not use the detailed physical representation. Therefore, the detailed physical representation is optional.
