To create a fireproofing symbol, start by copying a member cross-section symbol file and use that as the basis of the geometry for the Simple Physical representation of the fireproofing graphics.

While much of the graphics from the cross section symbol are not used by the fireproofing symbol, their presence in the file will not cause problems. For example, the Detailed Physical representation and additional cardinal point definitions from the member cross-section symbol will not cause a problem with the fireproofing symbol.

Creating a fireproofing symbol is very similar to creating a profile cross section symbol, with the following exceptions:

  • There is no Detailed Physical representation for a fireproofing symbol. For information on creating the graphics for the symbol, see the following:

    Draw the Simple Physical Representation
    Dimension the Simple Physical Representation

  • Dimension the fireproofing graphics so that they move relative to the member cross-section graphics. For more information on defining dimensioning and edges, see the following:

    Define Dimension Variables
    Name Profile Edges

  • Only Cardinal Point 1 is used for fireproofing. Constrain this point so that its computed position in the fireproofing symbol is at the location where the member cross section symbol has computed its Cardinal Point 1. This means that the fireproofing symbol needs to include at least some of the same parameters and graphics used for the member cross section symbol. This requirement is compatible with the requirement that the fireproofing shape is relative to the member cross section graphics. For information on defining Cardinal Points, see Define Cardinal Points.

  • The symbol parameter for the insulation thickness must be named thk_fp. For information on defining symbol properties, see Define Symbol Properties.

  • For information on defining the symbol representation, see Define Symbol Representation.

  • For information on adding the symbol data to the catalog, see Add Symbol Data to the Catalog.

The delivered fireproofing symbols are delivered to the [Product Folder]\SmartPlantStructure\Data folder by default.
