You can test the behavior of your symbol by adding geometry that temporarily replaces the symbol inputs, and mimics the input conditions seen when the symbol is placed in a model.

  1. Click Tools > Layers to display the Layer toolbar.

  2. Click Change Layer .

  3. On the dialog box, select the TestGeometry layer, and then click OK.

SHARED Tip Create the Test Geometry layer if it does not exist. For more information, see Manage Layers.

  4. Add geometry to mimic an input condition that you would like to test.

    • The test geometry must be of the same type as the input geometry. For example, if the input geometry is B-spline curves, the test geometry must also be B-spline curves.

    • All constraints used to create the test geometry must be deleted before using the test geometry.

SHARED Tip Place the geometry so that it does not overlap other symbol geometry.

  5. On the Opening toolbar, click Output Test .

  6. Click the Replace geometry tab.

  7. Replace the input geometry with the test geometry, and click Apply. The symbol moves and adjusts to the test geometry. For more information, see Replace Geometry Tab (Output Test Dialog Box).

SHARED Tip If the symbol does not adjust the way that you expected, then its constraints or dimensions should be reviewed and changed as needed.

  8. Click Cancel. The symbol should move back to its original position.

  9. If the symbol did not move back to its original position, click Edit > Undo.
