There are a number of ways to create relationships between schema objects. Since the relationships between objects are defined by the meta schema, you can create instances of those relationships, but the easiest way to create these relationships is by editing one of the objects. For example, if you want to add a realizes relationship between a class definition and an interface definition, the most direct way is to either edit the class definition and add the interface to the list of realized interfaces or to edit the interface and add the class definition to the list of class definitions that realize that interface.

Creating Relationships by Modifying the Object at One End of the Relationship

You can create relationships by editing the object at one end of the relationship using the Edit dialog box for that object. In the Edit dialog box, you can add, remove, or modify existing relationships by changing the values in the text boxes.

  1. From any of the standard views, find and right-click the object you want to create a relationship for.

  2. On the shortcut menu, click Edit <Object Type>.

  3. In the Edit dialog box, use the provided boxes to create the new relationship.

    • Click   to display a dialog box that allows you to select objects for each relationship type.

    • To remove existing relationships, click selected objects in the list to clear them.

    • To remove all currently related objects, click Clear.

  4. Click OK to save the new relationships.
