Direct integration, as it applies to the SmartPlant Enterprise authoring tools, refers to exporting and importing data from tool to tool without using additional data management features. For example, you might export a drawing file from Smart P&ID and import it into SmartSketch for viewing. This type of transfer does not require any of the functionality supplied by full or basic integration, making direct integration an option for implementations that do not have SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator installed.
Because this type of data exchange does not provide data mapping, file storage, or other data management features, we recommend a direct integration system for smaller implementations. However, if you have a larger-scale implementation using full or basic integration, you can still use direct integration when you need a direct, tool-to-tool data exchange solution outside of SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator.
All of the SmartPlant Enterprise authoring tools can be configured for direct integration. See Tools Interfaces with External and Third-Party Applications for tables that illustrate what direct integration is possible among the tools.
For tool-specific details about direct integration, see the tool documentation. For help configuring tools for direct integration, contact support services.
