SmartPlant Foundation 2019 is compatible with Smart Construction 2019. For documentation and additional information about that product, see the product documentation available from Hexagon Support.

Smart Construction uses SmartPlant Foundation technology to help better manage a construction project and the data associated with that project. Through the interoperability of Smart Construction and SmartPlant Foundation, Smart Construction users are able to create work packages detailing work to be executed with engineering, construction, and design data stored in a SmartPlant Foundation database. Smart Construction users can query the SmartPlant Foundation database for published data. Published data, such as drawings and models, can be viewed and included in Smart Construction work packages.

The diagram below illustrates the data exchange between SmartPlant Foundation and Smart Construction.

Smart Construction can be configured with a materials system, a schedule system, and document system through direct integration with an open API.

Smart Construction can be configured to integrate with a materials system. By default, Smart Construction has direct integration with Smart Materials; however, an open API provides integration with other materials systems. Once configured for integration, Smart Construction uses your materials system forecast data to filter 3D models and 2D drawings. The connection between Smart Construction and your materials system also allows users with the appropriate security privileges to run a forecast and reserve materials for IWPs.

Smart Construction can be configured to integrate with a schedule system through an open API. Once configured for integration, Smart Construction uses your schedule system to load CWPs into a project.

Smart Construction can be configured to integrate with an external documents system through an open API. Once configured for integration, Smart Construction uses the document system to load documents into a project. These documents can be attached to IWPs.

Smart Construction provides the capability to automatically assign work steps to components after they are added to an IWP. These work steps form the basis of determining the completion status of an IWP. By default, the Rules of Progress Service delivered with Smart Construction communicates with an example Microsoft Excel workbook that is delivered with the Smart Construction server installation. The Smart Construction administrator can modify the delivered example workbook to fit the specific needs of an organization, or the administrator can create a new customized rules of progress service.

Smart Construction delivers a Microsoft Excel workbook template that administrators can use to create and edit project data for a Smart Construction site to fit the specific needs of an organization. Administrators can import the data from the Microsoft Excel workbook into Smart Construction to create contracts, contractors, and CWPs and configure the relationships among those objects.
