If you plan to use the Web Client as part of your implementation, or if you want to have direct API access (for use with a tool such as Power BI, for example), you also need to prepare an authorization server for use with HxGN SDx.
Beginning with Update 23, Smart API Manager is the default authorization server provided with HxGN SDx. You can use an existing installation of Smart API Manager or create a new Smart API Manager server. In either case, you must also install the Intergraph Smart API Manager Authorization Extension for SmartPlant Foundation and SDx on the same server as SAM.
For information on setting up Smart API Manager, see Welcome to Intergraph Smart API Manager Installation and Configuration. For information about installing the extension that allows HxGN SDx to use SAM as its authentication server, see Install Intergraph Smart API Manager Authorization Extension for SmartPlant Foundation and SDx.
You may also use an external authorization service, such as Okta. In this case, you don't need to install any SAM software. For information on how to set up your external authorization service, you would need to refer to the documentation for that product.
We recommend using the same authorization service throughout your solution. For example, if you use Smart API Manager for authenticating Web Client users, you should also use SAM for authenticating other Hexagon software.
