SmartPlant Foundation communication is over HTTPS using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption for all requests and responses. Domain content is made available via an OData service secured using the OAuth 2 protocol. OAuth 2 user authentication policies will vary from client to client but can be adapted to support a client's specific Single Sign-On requirements.

SmartPlant Foundation provides Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to restrict functionality and visibility of content with granular roles and permissions. Security rules can also be configured to give complex restrictions to functionality and visibility of content.
