The purpose of Smart Mapping is to map Model items to Schedule items, and Schedule items to Cost items, based on Classification Codes and Rules.
Based on these rules, you will get results of the mapping on a review screen. After you are satisfied with the results, you can approve this mapping so that the relations between the items are created. If the results are not satisfactory, you can add or edit the rules to obtain different results until they are satisfactory.
The most efficient way to map your project items is by scoping the project into different disciplines such as Structural, MEP, etc., or even into major item classifications, such as beams, slabs, plumbing items, etc., and creating a rule for each of these classes. It will create a manageable number of items to map and review.
On the other hand, if you make a single rule or very few rules that scope a massive number of objects in your project, this may negatively impact system performance and increase the difficulty in reviewing all the relationships created by a single or few rules. The output may easily be in the hundreds of thousands of connections.
The above best practice will help you develop, maintain, and analyze the 5D relationships effectively in Smart Build Insight.
The relationships created with Smart 5D Mapping can be visualized in the 5D Management module.
