The project schedule, which can be imported into Smart Build Insight or created directly in Smart Build Insight, is represented by a hierarchy of Work Packages under WBS nodes. Smart Build Insight then allows the user to break down the actual fieldwork associated with each Work Package into a set of Work Steps (installation instructions, such as Install formwork, Pour concrete, or QA work), each with its own set of detailed properties.

The image below shows the schedule activity "00_N_Columns F/R/P" automatically converted into the Smart Build Insight Work Package of the same name. We can now add model objects and 2D documents to this activity/ Work Package, and we can then break it down into work instructions called Work Steps.

Work Packages can be created in four ways:

  • Retrieving an Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM schedule via API integration

  • Importing an XML file from P6 or Microsoft Project in MS Project format

  • Importing an Excel file using Generic Import/Export

  • Creating work packages directly in Smart Build Insight

Work steps can be created in Smart Build Insight in two ways:

  • Applying a predefined work package recipe of work steps to a work package

  • Creating the work steps manually under the work package
