  1. Click Schedule Management > Production Planning .

  2. From the work breakdown structure, select a WBS node and then click Options > Create milestone.

  3. In the Overview section, specify all the required details.

  4. For milestone, choose either Start milestone or Finish milestone, and then select a date.

As milestones have zero duration, you only need to specify either start or end date depending on the milestone you chose.

  5. Click Save.

To define dependencies

  1. Expand the Dependencies section.

  2. Expand the Predecessors or Successors sections.

    • To set a predecessor, click Add predecessor in the Predecessors section.

    • To set successor, click Add successor in the Successors section.

  3. In the corresponding grid, click the Select a work package cell.

  4. Browse and select a work package or milestone from the list.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Specify the relationship and lag or lead in days and hours.

    • If you want to specify lead duration, type a negative value for Lag, for example -10.

    • You can add multiple predecessors or successors to a work package or milestone. To add more dependencies, click Add in the corresponding section.

  7. Expand Constraints section.

  8. Specify the constraint Type and Date as per the project requirement.

    What are constraints?

A constraint is a restriction or limitation that is imposed on a schedule item to enhance the project performance. Apart from the dependencies, constraints impact Start or End Dates of a work package or milestone.

Know more about constraint types available in Smart Build Insight.

You can set the following constraints on a work package or milestone as per the project requirement.

When you select a constraint, the application auto-populates the start date or end date of a work package or milestone based on the selected constraint type.

    Constraint

    Description

    None

The work package or activity does not have any constraint. The application selects the activity's early dates as soon as possible to avoid any delay in the project.

    As late as possible

The application restricts an activity allowing it to start as late as possible without delaying its successors. This option disables the calendar icon.

    Mandatory start

Specifies the date an activity must begin on regardless of the Start date calculated by the dependencies of the activity.

    Start on or before

Specifies a date on or before which an activity must start.

    Finish on or before

Specifies a date on or before which an activity must finish.

    Finish on or after

Specifies a date on or after which an activity must finish, allowing flexibility for a later completion if necessary, but not earlier than the specified date.

    Start on or after

Specifies a date on or after which an activity must start, allowing flexibility for a later start if necessary, but not earlier than the specified date.

    Mandatory finish

Specifies a fixed and non-negotiable finish date for an activity, regardless of the finish date calculated based on dependencies.

When you update the start and end dates, or define the execution order of a work package, the application automatically adjusts the corresponding Gantt bar position and duration.
