Product Branding Update

A new era is about to begin. Octave will soon unleash intelligence at scale.

  • HxGN SDx2 will be rebranded as Octave InConcert as part of the Octave launch.

This is a branding update only and does not affect existing functionality or ongoing feature development.

Business Administration

  • When creating a destination to synchronize assets to an equipment or tags to a FLOC, you no longer need to select a connector or version because SDx2 supports a single Plant Maintenance connector. (5203145)

  • Administrators can search for users and update user properties using the update form and list editing from the results grid. (4951302, 4951310)

  • User management usability has been enhanced to help administrators work more efficiently. Login names appear alongside user names in the Configuration and Role tabs, and configuration descriptions are displayed to help administrators quickly understand their purpose and make the right selections. (5049145, 5211280)

Design Tool Integration

  • HxGN SDx2 provides the opportunity to create your own custom correlation rules. You can also update or delete existing rules, if necessary. (4270644)

  • If a document shared from a design tool fails to load into HxGN SDx2, the status of the related load queue is also set to Failed. Previously, such failed queues were automatically resubmitted for processing when the schedule task was polled again, but with this change, we offer the option to manually resubmit the failed load queue immediately. (4446088)

Document and Data Management

  • The handover request functionality in the Data Books feature set has been enhanced to support merge of green field data such as tags from project to plant. The tags along with the documents coming from the Data Take-On, Data Capture and Authoring domains are consolidated and merged to the plant. (3825367)

  • The Concurrent Engineering functionality has been enhanced to handle changes in brownfield data. This enhancement enables users to manage engineering changes using project based as-built segregation, by supporting claim and merge capabilities. The Change Management feature set has been enhanced to include the Engineering Change Request functionality, which can be used to create the change requests at the plant level by relating the affected objects along with related items. However, only the objects that need changes are then claimed to the project, updated based on the incoming data from Data-Take On, Data Capture and Authoring domains, and finally consolidated and merged back to the plant. Currently, this functionality supports only non-integrated project types and further enhancements will be rolled out to HxGN SDx2 tenants in phases. (5116726)

  • The Document Life Cycle viewer displays a document claimed to multiple configurations from its creation in a plant to the present revision in a project when you use Concurrent Engineering. The document life cycle viewer shows documents in each configuration across a timeline in a train line display. This allows you to easily view the status of a document object and when it was modified across multiple configuration levels at the same time. You can also choose and reorder the project configurations that visible to you in the viewer, as well as view a selected documents revision details and file view in a dedicated side panel. (4202079)

    Tell me more

Concurrent Engineering allows you to create, view, modify, and terminate changes to documentation within different project configurations, without affecting the As-Built plant data. These long-term project transactions may span days, weeks, months, or years, while controlling changes to the project data and the original As-Built data.

You first claim documents from the plant level to the specific project level so that any changes do not impact the current document at the plant level. Using the Document Life Cycle viewer, you can see the document lifecycle of a document across multiple configurations and time lines, seeing a new revision each time there are any changes. After a project is completed, the claimed documents can be merged back to the As-Built (Plant) configuration.

    Key features

When you access merged project documents in the Document Life Cycle viewer, you can see:

    • An overview of the Document Lifecycle that displays documents that have been changed in different projects using Concurrent Engineering.

    • Previous approvals, which provides an insight in a completed workflows and allows investigation into who approved the change and who actioned the change

    • A view of a project object, its current progress or status, and any changes made to the object between project configurations compared to the As-Built revision.

    • A view of the object in each different project configuration displayed in a train line timeline showing what and when it was changed.

    • The Plant (As Built) revisions and documentation objects claimed to different concurrent projects.

  • Administrators can control who can download or print files in the View and Markup Control. This enhances data security. (3858773)

  • Some Actions menu commands have been modified to be inline with the object name. Show Contract has been renamed to Show Contract Work Package, and Show Viewable Files has been renamed to Show All Files. Show Latest Version allows you to view a contract relationship to a revision. (4946498)

DTO: Data Capture & Smartification

  • Data Capture has been enhanced to extract and review tags, off-page connectors, and their relationships from documents and drawings classified other than P&ID. (3778775)

DTO: Lists and 3D Models

  • Some of the commonly needed Data Take-On load mappings are identified and made available in XML file format, along with the respective CSV load file. These mappings can be imported to HxGN SDx2 and used for loading data or used as a sample to modify as per your requirement. (3513921)

  • You can pair import definitions in a job definition to process Create, Update, and Delete actions together in one job, using a single input CSV file. This reduces processing complexity and effort. (5114343)

Information Browsing

  • The SPFFileObject class definition has been introduced to ensure that any UI asset file objects can be controlled by configuration-top across all plants to help improve performance. (5272648)

  • Workflow instances are configuration controlled and separated by plant using the class definitions for each workflow instance. Previously, all workflow instance steps were processed together just to fetch the ToDo List items for a specific configuration. By separating the workflows by plant configuration, the performance of your ToDo List with large datasets is improved as the To Do List only loads the workflow steps that are relevant to the configurations or plants you select in scopes. (4836697)

Project Collaboration and work processes

  • A mechanism has been introduced to restrict workflow schedulers to only process two tasks at a time between the set scheduler polling interval. Previously the workflow scheduler processed as many tasks as it could find. Now this mechanism limits the tasks for a single tenant to improve performance. When a scheduler reaches the next polling cycle and the previous tasks are complete, it picks up the next two tasks for processing and processes them as expected asynchronously. (4173046)

  • When creating a new incoming transmittal, the form automatically applies default values to streamline the process:

    • Security Code is set to Unclassified.

    • Item Owning Group defaults to Engineer.

    • The Discipline field displays only the disciplines relevant to the user's configuration.

While these defaults help speed up data entry, you can modify any of them as needed to suit your specific requirements. (4946307)

  • You can update Working documents through the submittal process in brownfield project scenarios. This enhancement removes the need to sign off a Working document before updates, preventing duplicate revisions. (5254942, 5331759)

  • With a dedicated method to relate revised project documents to contracts, HxGN SDx2 removes incorrect relationship options and ensures the system always creates the correct relationship between the document and the contract. Project engineers can search for a contract and assign documents accurately. This improvement helps external organizations receive the right documents and supports a smooth submittal process. (4964672, 5019428)

Visualization & 3D Design Review

  • When working with multiple overlapping annotations, users are able to choose how to layer the annotations with two new buttons, Send to Back and Bring to Front. This allows users to have control over the order of markup objects. (5222887)

  • Improvements have been made to the behavior of annotations (both individual and groups) that are being copied and pasted. These improvements help users save time while annotating by optimizing placement of pasted annotations. (5229859)

    • When pasting annotations in the same file as the original annotation, the pasted annotation appears near the original.

    • You can copy and paste grouped annotations while maintaining the original relative positioning of the annotations to each other.

    • If you copy and paste between two tabs that are the same size, the pasted annotation will appear in the same coordinate as the original annotation in the previous tab.

    • If you copy and paste between two tabs that are not the same size, the pasted annotation will appear in the middle of the new tab.

  • Aria, our new AI-powered assistant, is being integrated into the Design Review environment to enable prompt driven object searches and object property-based coloring. This capability streamlines navigation of complex models and simplifies the generation of visual intelligence reports by leveraging AI and natural language processing. (5110991)

  • In the view and markup control, Black and White Display Controls are available on the Markup Toolbar. (4468732)

  • Viewing and navigating large linearized PDFs in the View and Markup Control has improved markup accuracy and display stability. You can view markups immediately, once each page is fully loaded, and the markups will display in the correct position (4989927).

  • The View and Markup Control enables you to open multiple PDFs or PDF renditions simultaneously in tabs. This enhancement streamlines the markup and review process by allowing you to switch between documents without exiting and re-entering the tool. (4801671)

  • Digital Reality Alignment allows you to shift a 3D model to lay over an HxDR Asset using three pairs of reference points for precise spatial positioning. (5124265, 5233548)
