In HxGN SDx, certain file types, such as MicroStation files, AutoCAD files, and Word files, are
called master files, and when attached to a document, can reference other files. The
files referenced by the master file can be viewed and edited separately and can reference
other files, which creates a nested reference relationship.
The relationships are maintained between the master files and their referenced files
using reference relationships during check in, editing, viewing, and so on. These
reference relationships are created between the master files and the referenced files
when a document is created and has files attached or when a master file is checked
back in after editing. These reference relationships are created and updated if you
add, edit, or delete any reference files when you edit a master file.
When a master file is attached or checked in, the software reads the headers of all
the files. The software first searches for the reference files attached to the master
file and then searches for any referenced files that are attached to other documents
to create any reference relationships. If the software does not find the reference
files, or finds duplicate reference files, you must resolve these issues to create
the reference relationship, by default.
The following diagram shows various reference relationships between documents and
files.
What file types can be attached as reference files to master files?
Before you start creating reference files, you need to understand what files types
can be associated as reference files to master files. The following table illustrates
what types of reference files (listed down the left side of the table) can be associated
with master files of a specific type (listed along the top of the table). For some
types of files, specific versions of the software or configurations are required.
