For all the file types, when you click on the file hyperlink, you can add an action within a markup layer using the View and Markup page. This is a two-part process:

  • You place a specific image, called an action pin, on the file and describe the needed action in a form.

  • The Web Client creates the action, which will appear in the To Do list of assigned users when the QA Review is completed. The Web Client then attaches a changemark to the action pin, so that you can also see the action information on the View and Markup page.

Action pins cannot be associated with actions created using the Actions tab on the Document Review page.

  1. Click on the file hyperlink.

For information on how to work with markups, see Marking up and comparing your files.

  2. Click Markup , and select:

    • New markup to add the action pin in a new markup layer

    • Open for edit to add the action pin to an existing markup layer

  3. From the expanded toolbar, select Image.

  4. Click Image VIEW_MARKUP_IMAGE_ICON, and then click Image Options Choose Image Gear to choose the image your organization uses for action pins.

Even if several images are available, only one can be used as an action pin. Actions are only created when you choose the image that your organization uses for action pins.

SHARED Tip The default image is GreenActionPin . However, your administrator might have changed it using the CreateClassObjAndRelFromMarkup client API .

  5. Click anywhere in the file to place the action pin.

SHARED Tip To move or resize the action pin, click Select , and click the action pin.

  6. Enter the required information in the New Outgoing Action form.

  7. Click Markup , and select Save Markup when you are finished. Then click Markup again, and select Close Review.

The action is created, and the changemark containing the action details is added to the markup layer and associated to the action pin.

Why can't I view details of the action pin I just created?

The details of an action associated with an action pin are available in the changemark associated with the action pin. For that changemark to appear after you create an action pin, you must first save and close the markup layer containing the action pin.

  1. Click Markup , and select Save Markup.

  2. Click Markup again, and select Close Edit.

  3. Click Markup once more, and select Open for Edit or Open for Review.

The action pin details are now available.

Why can't I delete an action pin?

You must delete the action pin image and save the markup when you are finished. Deleting the associated changemark does not delete the action pin. For more information, see Deleting action pins from the View and Markup page.

You can also add an action interactively from the project communication feature set. For more information, see Create a technical query or an action.
