Technical queries are managed communications between appropriate stakeholders that provide a consistent path and tracking to ensure that the query and any responses are completed in a timely manner.

Technical queries between stakeholders:

  • Require a response within a contractually-specified timeframe

  • May be related to one or more documents or tags

  • May have responses from multiple responders

A technical query is a report raised on a document, process, or equipment by an engineer or any other authorized user to report an item for further action, such as gathering information, notification of a change of design, maintenance, discussion, and so on. The technical query is attached to a defined workflow definition asynchronously to distribute the query details to contractors and their technical experts or internally to technical experts within the organization.

Each technical query contains all the relevant information, images, or documents for the item or process being reported, which can be opened directly from within the technical query. When you create a technical query, PDF renditions are generated and issued to the recipient or contractor instead of the original documents. The technical query can also be configured so that the recipients must respond within a designated time frame to meet any contractual obligations.
