Signing off a document finalizes it:

The status for the revision is set to CURRENT. Any previous released revisions are SUPERSEDED.

The document is set to be the current released version and is made official.

The status of the document master is changed to ISSUED.

Document revisions that have been signed off and current are frozen and cannot be checked out.

Signing off a document in a project does not update the as-built revision status to SUPERSEDED.
