The User Defined Screens screen is a standard (i.e. List View / Record View) HxGN EAM screen used to create new screens within EAM.

  • Name the User Defined screen - On the Record View tab of the User Defined Screens screen, enter the Screen Name and Description to identify the new screen. The system has some restrictions on screen name: there cannot be an existing screen name of the same name, no special characters can be included, and the second character of the six-character code must be ‘U’.

  • Define the table that supports the screen - The user must define a table that will store and support the screen data. Table Name cannot be the same as any existing tables within the EAM schema and Table Name cannot contain special characters. Note that after the screen is generated the actual table name will be prefixed with ‘U5’

  • Decide if an entity is needed - If you enter an Enity the system will automatically include a Description field on the Fields tab and will also include a Comments and Documents tab for the screen during the generation process. Note that after the screen is generated the actual entity code will be prefixed with ‘$’.

  • Decide if the new screen is a tab or a menu item - If you select Tab the system will also ask to which Parent Screen this tab will be added. Otherwise the screen will be a list view / record view screen that can be selected as a menu item.

Once the screen has been defined, including all the required fields on the Fields tab, the screen can be generated, after which it is available for selection on the menu or as a tab. Further configurations on this screen are now limited, but screen designer can be used to fine tune the screen for the end users.

If the Out of Service check box is selected, the User Defined Screen is not displayed in User Defined Screen lookups throughout the system. Additionally, these screens cannot be selected for the Menus and Scanner Menu tabs on User Groups. Note that screens already placed on the menu before they were set to out of service will remain on the menu and in good working order. If needed, they must be manually removed.
