Many mathematical concepts apply to reliability engineering, particularly from the areas of probability and statistics. Likewise, many mathematical distributions can be used to describe reliability. For the purpose of this document and with respect to HxGN EAM reliability capabilities, this document focuses on the Laplace test for time series analysis and the Weibull continuous probability distribution, which are two of the most widely applied to reliability engineering.
