We have created a new tab for vehicles (assets) called Qualifications. List all qualifications for the vehicle here. This new tab is basically a copy of the Qualifications tab on Employees and functions in much the same way.
The significance of associating qualifications to vehicles is that EAM will send WO activities with their needed qualifications, crews/employees with their qualifications, and vehicles with their qualifications to the Constraint Optimizer. Because of the relationship between the vehicle and the crew, EAM sends qualifications for both the crew and its vehicle to the Constraint Optimizer. The combined qualifications for both are matched to WO activity qualifications to determine which crew is dispatched.
A good example of a vehicle qualification that is used to help meet a WO activity qualification is when a crew is dispatched to repair damaged power poles/lines. One of the qualifications for this WO activity task is the crew must have a 30-foot telescoping ladder. The ladder would be listed as a qualification of the crew’s vehicle while the required training/experience to perform the repair itself would come from the crew’s/employee’s qualifications. If a crew doesn’t have a vehicle with a 30-foot ladder, then that crew will not be dispatched.
Vehicle qualifications are not used anywhere else in EAM to schedule or dispatch crews/employees, except as part of the Constraint Optimizer integration.
