Standards are devices are used to compare a known characteristic to that of a less accurate device. For example, if a scale is being calibrated and you are recording the actual reading on the scale when a 1kg standard is placed on the scale. The weight of the 1kg standard is known and has been verified to be 1kg; therefore, it is used to compare its weight to the reading on the scale.

Standards that are used during a calibration procedure are normally documented as part of the calibration and archived. In EAM, standards used for calibrations is documented on the Standards Used popup available on the Calibration tab for Work Order i.e., where the calibration is documented in EAM.

Standard within EAM can be parts, or they can be a part that an individual asset associated. This makes sense as some standards may be very inexpensive and are simply discarded when old or damaged i.e., they are not repaired and re-calibrated. Other standards are more expense and are often repaired and re-calibrated when necessary.

After creating standards (i.e., parts), associate the appropriate standard(s) to each device (i.e., equipment) that will be calibrated. This is done on the Parts Associated tab for Equipment. By making this association, the system will copy parts associated to the device that have the Calibration Standard check box selected to the calibration work order when created. The calibration standards can be viewed/modified by selecting the Standards Used ‘action’ on the Calibration tab for Work Order. If the part standard is associated to asset, the specific asset used during the calibration will also be selected by the calibration technician at the time of the calibration.

  • When creating a part record that represents a calibration standard, be sure the select the Calibration Standard check box on the Part record.

  • Any calibration standards used during a calibration can be manually selected using the Standards Used ‘action’ described above if necessary.
