Installation & Upgrade

If you are installing Full-Text Retrieval (FTR) and Directa for the first time, install FTR before you install Directa. If Directa is already installed, stop the Network and Services on all computers in your environment. Then, remove FTR, reinstall FTR, and restart the Network and Services.

Upgrade all installations of AIM/FTR earlier than 3.6.1 in your AIM system to FTR 3.6.1 (or later). On every computer where FTR 3.6 was installed, go into the ExecSQL screen and run the following command for each collection: VALIDATE INDEX collection_name UPGRADE_FORMAT

The above command will upgrade collections to the latest FTR 3.6 format. Note that once these collections are converted to FTR 3.6 format, they can no longer be opened using earlier versions of AIM/FTR. Restart the Directa Network and Services on all computers in your Directa environment.

Complete the following steps to install FTR.

  1. Insert the FTR CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the installation does not start automatically, double-click FTRAutoPlay.exe on the CD.

  2. Click the FTR Installation link.

For help installing the Adobe Reader, see www.adobe.com.

  3. Click Next on the Welcome dialog box to begin installing the software.

  4. Click Next to continue the installation.

  5. Read the software license agreement and click Yes. Carefully read the warning about installing FTR.

  6. Type your name, company, and serial number. Click Next.

If there are previous versions of FTR, a dialog box asks if you want to remove them. When you remove the previous versions, the installer will prompt you to restart your computer. You should restart your computer and begin the installation again.

  7. Click Yes to remove the previous versions, or click No to exit the installation.

  8. On the Registration Confirmation dialog box, click Yes to confirm registration.

  9. Confirm the default path in the Destination Folder. To change folders, click Browse and select the folder that you want.

  10. Click Typical Setup and then click Next.

Select Custom Setup to install the required components and the International Linguistics file.

  11. On the Select Program Folder dialog box, type a new program folder name or select one from existing folders. Click Next.

  12. Specify the port number for the SearchServer Servlet Runner, or accept the default port number. Click Next.

  13. Specify the port number for the SearchServer JDBC Driver, or accept the default port number. Click Next.

  14. On the Set Collection Creation Directory (FULCREATE) dialog box, type the full path name of the directory where you want to create collections. Click Next.

  15. On the Set Collection Search Path (FULSEARCH) dialog box, type the full path names of any additional directories for FTR to look for collections. Separate the directories with semicolons (;). Click Next.

  16. On the Set Network Search Path (FTNPATH) dialog box, type the locations where FTR should look for remote collections on other machines. The locations reside in the form node_name/tcp2048. Separate the locations with semicolons (;). Click Next.

  17. Click Yes to overwrite the file. If you check the Don't Display this message again box and click Yes, the installation will overwrite all of the Read Only files. If you check this option and click No, none of the Read Only files will be overwritten.

Setup installs the selected components and displays a message box of additional steps to complete after FTR is installed.

  18. Click OK.

  19. On the Setup Complete message box, click Yes to restart your computer now, or click No to restart it later.

  20. Click Finish to complete the installation.

After you have installed FTR, confirm that the directories you indicated for Collection Creation Directory and Collection Search Path exist. FTR Help contains more setup and configuration information.

  21. Complete the procedure described in Post Installation Procedure.
