This section discusses how to start the software after it has been installed successfully and begin performing the various tasks in the software environment.

Project Management

Reference a Point Cloud

  1. From the tree view hierarchy in the left pane, right-click the Plant icon, and then select New Point Cloud Model Reference.

  2. In the Point Cloud Model Reference dialog box, select a vendor from the Select Point Cloud vendor to use list. Only one vendor can be referenced at a time.

When defining the workspace, the Point Cloud Graphics and PointCloud - Leica Geosystems Inc. appears on the New Filter Properties dialog box on both the System tab and Object Type tab. When the point cloud is defined, it appears in Smart 3D on the Workspace Explorer view.

Smart 3D

You can use the CloudWorx features using the CloudWorx menu in Smart 3D. Most CloudWorx commands require that a CloudWorx project be open. Otherwise, you should:

  • Use Configure Databases to configure databases.

  • Add a filter using Define Workspace. The filter should have Point Cloud Graphics and PointCloud - Leica Geosystems Inc. selected. Save changes to session file.

  • When you open a session file that has the defined filter, it automatically launches Open ModelSpace View dialog. Select the ModelSpace View to open. The software loads point clouds into Smart 3D.

  • Use Import ModelSpace View to import a Cyclone ModelSpace View and save the project, or use Open Project to open a saved CloudWorx project.

You need to open a Smart 3D session file first. The session file should have a filter containing Point Cloud Graphics and PointCloud - Leica Geosystems Inc. It will automatically bring up the Open ModelSpace View dialog on opening the session file. Do not rely solely on the Open ModelSpace View to bring in point clouds.

Refer to the CloudWorx for Smart 3D User's Guide to know how to configure the databases and import the model space view.
