The List Edit control supports dependent related items. This is similar to dependent related display items on dialog boxes. Create a relationship between the column items of two items to make the display of one item dependent on the other.
-
Click Find > Administration > Column Item in the Desktop Client to find the column items to relate.
-
Drag the dependent column item onto the parent item to open a New Relationship dialog box. For example, drop the display item for a unit onto the display item for an area.
-
Click Maintain Attributes to open the Update form for the relationship.
-
Enter a path definition in the Path definition box, such as +SPFFunctionalAreaUnits. This path defines the way to navigate from one item to the other. This path is directional and is prefixed with a plus (+) sign or a minus (-) sign. The direction is from the parent related object to the dependent related object, for example, from the area to the unit.
-
Click OK to save the changes.
-
Click OK on the New Relationship dialog box to create the relationship.
-
Both column items must be relationship type items.
-
There is a condition in place to prevent the creation of a relationship if either end does not qualify (for example, if an end is not a relationship).
