After you create a competency, you must add components to the competency before the competency can be pulled into a qualification pathway and assigned to users. These components create a tree-like structure for the competency and are referred to as nodes within the UI.

  1. Choose one of the following:

    1. If you just created a competency and want to start adding components to it right away, proceed to step 2.

    2. If you've previously created a few different competencies, go to Reusable Competencies Single-use competency icon and select Edit beside the competency you want to start adding nodes to.

  2. Hover over the competency name and click Plus icon.

  3. Choose one of the following options:

    1. Grouping: Use groupings to organize your nodes. If you choose to create a grouping, keep in mind that you can not add proficiency levels to a grouping. If you want to make use of proficiency levels, they must be added first and then you can add groupings to those levels. Groupings can only contain more groupings and learning modules.

    2. Learning module: This is the only mandatory component of a competency. Additional nodes cannot be added to a learning module because it is the most granular component of your tree-like structure. All competencies must contain at least one learning module. Learning modules can be made up of AcceleratorKMS content and/or learning statements. Learning statements are similar to statements in AcceleratorKMS. Learning statements can include text, links to internal or external resources, images, embedded videos and iFrames. You can copy learning statements and include more than one learning statement in a single learning module.

    3. Proficiency level: Use proficiency levels to enable users to build upon their knowledge base and expertise, with the most basic level appearing first. Proficiency levels can contain groupings and learning modules.

  4. Enter a name and a description for the component you're adding.

  5. If you're adding a learning module, choose one of the following options:

    1. From the Content field, navigate to an AcceleratorKMS document, and then enter a Name and Description.

    2. Add a Learning statement, give it a title, and then enter text, add a table, an internal or external link, an attachment, or embedded video or iFrame.

    3. Copy an existing Learning statement.

  6. If you want to make learners perform everything within this component in sequential order, check the Restrict sequence check box. Be aware that the Restrict sequence feature applies to the children of a component, not the component's grandchildren.

  7. If you want to give users a certain amount of time to complete the component, perform the following substeps:

    1. From the Duration time drop-down list, choose the time period for how long you want to give users to complete the component. Then, enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.

    2. From the Duration time warning drop-down list, choose the time period for notifying users that the component is coming due. Then, enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.

  8. Hover over the competency name to add more parallel components or hover over a component to add smaller branches and then click Plus icon.

  9. Repeat steps 3 through 7 to continue to expand the competency.
