AcceleratorLXP Version
4.1

After you define and build out your competency types in AcceleratorLXP, your next step is to create the competencies that fit within each competency type.

There are two types of competencies:

  • Reusable Single-use competency icon: A competency that is common to more than one qualification pathway. If a learner is assigned a pathway that contains a reusable competency that they have already completed as part of another pathway, the learner receives credit for the highest proficiency level previously completed. The learner is not required to redo the same competency in another pathway.  Note: In the UI, reusable competencies appear with a filled-in star icon and can only be edited by users assigned an admin role and granted the Edit competency permission.

  • Single use Reusable competency icon: A competency that is unique to a specific pathway and not reused elsewhere. Single-use competencies display with an empty star icon and can be edited from the qualification pathway by any user.

Opportunities for reuse in AcceleratorLXP are directly tied to your domain structure and role access in AcceleratorKMS. Content in a reusable competency must exist in a domain within AcceleratorKMS that users have access to. AcceleratorLXP only requires the learner to have access, so at the very least, make sure learners have read-only access to all content in AcceleratorKMS.

You want to start by thinking about which competencies might be shared between different qualification pathways. After you create those reusable competencies, you can focus on filling in the gaps with single-use competencies.

  1. From the left navigation bar, go to Competencies  Single-use competency icon and click Create.

  2. Enter a name and description. Make sure to use a name that is easily searchable so that you can pull that reusable competency into different pathways.

  3. If you want the learner to perform everything within the competency in sequential order, check the Restrict sequence check box.

  4. From the Type drop-down list, choose the competency type you want to associate the competency to.

  5. If you want the competency to expire at some point, triggering retraining, perform the following substeps:

    1. From the Expiry time drop-down list, choose the time period for the expiry and then enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.
When a competency expires, learners are prompted to retrain.

    2. From the Expiry time warning drop-down list, choose the time period for notifying users that the competency is expiring soon. Then, enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.

  6. If you want to give users a certain amount of time to complete the competency, perform the following substeps:

    1. From the Duration time drop-down list, choose the time period for how long you want to give users to complete the competency. Then, enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.

    2. From the Duration time warning drop-down list, choose the time period for notifying users that the competency is coming due. Then, enter the number of days, weeks, months, or years associated with that time period.

  7. Click Create.
Now, the competencies and their proficiencies are searchable and reusable.
