Proficiency levels

If you're going to use proficiency levels in your qualification pathways, we recommend that you come up with standard levels that can be used across your organization, such as Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Proficiency levels are defined by the learning admin when creating each competency, so there is nothing preventing one competency having Basic, Intermediate and Advanced proficiency levels, and another using Basic, Advanced, and Expert.

There is currently no way to lock down what proficiency levels get created, so just make sure all learning admins are on the same page with regards to the proficiency levels you want to use.

Reusable competencies and qualification pathways

Naming conventions should be used for competency and qualification pathway names. The benefits of following a standard naming convention are two-fold:

  • Helps learning admins know which competencies to pull into qualifications and which qualification pathways to assign to learners

  • Helps learners, trainers, and managers differentiate between reusable competencies and qualification pathways that are standard across your organization and those that are specific to a site or a facility.

You don't want names to be too long, so we suggest using acronyms for facility locations and competency and qualification types. For example, you have a competency for following email signature guidelines. You want that competency to fall under the Administrative Functions competency type. You could use AF for Administrative Functions. If it's a competency that everyone in your organization must obtain, you could use GL for Global. So, consider naming that competency Email Signature (GL-AF). This way, users don't have to open that competency and read its description to find out what location and competency type it belongs to.
